Neolithic Settlement of Sesklo Guided Tour

If you are intrigued by the very beginning of western civilization and the transition from the hunter-gatherer stage to farming and stock-raising, Sesklo is the ideal site to visit. Located on a low hill only 12 km west of Volos with a magnificent view to Mount Pelion, the archaeological site of Sesklo with its pine tree grove is just as beautiful as its surroundings fields where farming and herding continues to this day.

It is nothing less than absolutely thrilling to walk through a village more than 8,000 years old. Manufacture of clay vessels, art, and architecture, all started here. Your guide will explain the significance of the settlement and help you appreciate the development of domestic architecture from primitive to large-scale as well as the way Neolithic people organized public and private space in their communities.

To complement your Sesklo experience you can visit the Archaeological Museum of Volos with its impressive collection of Neolithic artifacts from Sesklo and Dimini.

Tour is available upon request every day from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM except Tuesdays.
